So I've been thinking about the Hunger Games lately with the release of the trailer inspiring me to reread the series, and I am enjoying it even more than I did the first time. I blazed through the first two and have just started the third and I am having all of the thoughts. Most of them look like: Katnissssssssssss ♥ ♥ ♥

And then there is the movie, and the one ridiculous thing that I want to happen in it. I want them to show Haymitch in the Games headquarters, pensively waiting for the show to start, and in the background are the voices of people talking, and someone shouts something like "That sounds like Odair's kind of thing," and then everyone laughs while Haymitch just rolls his eyes, and every fan of the books sits up straight and looks for dear Finnick, but the camera cuts away, and we spend every shot of the mentors scanning the crowd for him. Don't ask me why, but I desperately want this. I don't want them to actually show him, and I doubt that they would rob themselves of that dramatic announcement at a later point, but yes, I want the studio to screw with us a little. (I never claimed to be sane, okay?)

I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] recast_bigbang with the intention of writing my story about the time Tony Stark competed in the Hunger Games. Because why not?

On day 2 of NaNoWriMo my word count is at day 5, and I am trying not to be too smug about this but failing miserably. I wrote 500 words by hand in my car went I got to work early and my hand is cramping up because I don't write like that anymore. It makes me feel like an awful person, but at the same time I appreciate being solidly in the age of computers just for the solid footing it gives me.

I absolutely abhor the new Google Reader, so much so that I almost used the survey they have up on Google Docs to express my dissatisfaction. I didn't share a whole lot before, or have any people I followed, but I did occasionally check on the profiles of people who liked the same posts as me and then discover new blogs to follow. And I used to be able to see how many new entries there were at all times, without having to scroll up, and as someone who is obsessive about reading things in order it's now so hard to make sure that nothing else is left before reading the best. Hopefully someone will have unveiled a close approximation to the original by the time I'm done with NaNoWriMo.

On top of that, I still haven't figured out where to stash my fandom bookmarks in a post-delicious world. I know that pinboard is taking over for a lot of people and that Maciej is being all sorts of awesome but I already have a nonfandom account there. I love it dearly but it is much simpler to keep things separate, and even though I'd be willing to pay for another just for fandom it won't work unless I can easily switch between the two accounts. [livejournal.com profile] bookshop's issues with diigo rule that one out. For now I'm saving fic on chrome, and it's not working out at all, but it's still better than delicious's complete failure to save anything the way I wanted it to once the switch went over.

On the subject of fic, Twenty-Twelve by [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon made me shiver at the awesomeness.

Now I am watching MLS playoffs and thinking of buying a bright green shirt and flying across the country just to sit with the amazingly passionate fans in Seattle. (Also, Tony Beltran is playing defense for Real Salt Lake and all I can think of is four years ago when he played for the youth team and ussoccer.com told stories about him and Sal Zizzo playing hide-and-seek in the dark, and it reminds me that watching these kids* grow up is one of my favorite thing about following sports.)

*He's a year younger than I am. But I still consider myself a child, so.

this is brek shea. he is currently my favoritest person in the world, with his awful hair and hipster clothes and his absolute decimation of the kansas city defense.

and furthermore on the subject of footie, the usmnt finally snagged juergen klinsmann. much joy in my house about this.

...

i finished reading divergent today and i enjoyed it a lot. really looking forward to the sequel. if you loved the hunger games, you should read this.

...

i've spent the last week falling for syfy's (*snickers*) haven. it's got the best ot3 i've found in ages, and i love them so much that i wrote something for the porn battle xii. gah.

toy broken boy soldier
The Hunger Games; Gale/Finnick; PG

(Wanting to fix this beautiful broken boy doesn’t mean anything; no one could be immune to a smile that is so seductive even in grief.)

i wrote BTR coda fic for "big time prom kings" because, uh, how could i not?  (also, why is this ridic fandom so hard to write for?  it took me four attempts to figure this thing out because nothing felt right for the longest time.)

James thinks he might be Cinderella.  Sort of.

Title from Doctor Who 5.1 "The Eleventh Hour."  Unbeta'd.  These are (sadly) not my boys.

so i just signed up for [livejournal.com profile] vampirebigbang because i'm obviously crazy.  and i decided to focus on caroline forbes and tyler lockwood from the vampire diaries because a while ago i came up with a pretty neat AU for them.  the catch is that i don't remember what it was at all, beyond it being an AU.  i'll have to think about this.
faketales: (01)
This was going to be about 300 words when I started, and then it suddenly wasn't.  It really just came out of nowhere.

i put a spell on you
The Vampire Diaries; Tyler Lockwood/Caroline Forbes; PG
1,480 words
Unbeta'd

Tyler has to deal with Caroline under Klaus's compulsion.  Set sometime after "Know Thy Enemy."  Assume spoilers up to that point.  These are not my characters.

Title from, um, "I Put a Spell On You" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins.  Cut text from "Strange and Beautiful (I'll Put a Spell On You)" by Aqualung.

you're strange and you're beautiful )

This is the first fanfiction piece I have written in three years.  It is over 9,000 more words than I ever wrote before.  I was just wandering through [livejournal.com profile] tsn_kinkmeme when the prompt struck me and I suddenly couldn't stop writing.  I took a few liberties with the idea but the general idea is the same.

Disclaimer: If you are Mark Zuckerberg or Eduardo Saverin and you arrived here by googling your name, don't worry because this isn't about you.  If you are Jesse Eisenberg or Andrew Garfield and you arrived here by googling the name of a character you once played in a movie then yes, this about you.  And I love you both.

old roads i go down
The Social Network; Mark Zuckerberg/Eduardo Saverin; PG-13
11,520 words

Prompt: Amnesia fic with Mark having amnesia. Blah blah something happens, Mark gets amnesia, and all he knows is that he's lost the last 'however many' years, and he's scared, and he's got Eduardo's number in his phone, so of course he calls him. Eduardo, who's still angry, tells him what he's missing from those years. Cue Mark shutting down all "...Oh. Sorry for bothering you." and retreating into himself. Cue guilty!Eduardo who comes to make sure he's all right/force him to eat/blah blah reconciliation.

Title from "Body of Years" by Mother Mother.  Unbeta'd.
