Yesterday I went ice skating in Rockefeller Center, which was a bold move on my part since a) I have gone ice skating exactly twice before in my life and both times were 12 years ago and b) I have a deep, deep, deep fear of public embarrassment. But I didn't fall at all and as soon as I let go of the railing and actually, you know, tried I started profusely thanking my best friend for dragging me out of my comfort zone. It was awesome, and we're already talking about doing it again next year.
We didn't stay for the ball dropping, because we're not crazy, but we did almost suffer death-by-crowd trying to get out of the city. Then we got food and I was in such a good mood that I tipped at 25% and then felt kind of guilty for not giving more. Midnight was a bit anti-climactic after all that but I kind of wish I believed that how one rings in a year is indicative of how the whole year is going to go because then I'd probably have a happier outlook on life.
Today I woke up at 6:30 (because isn't that how everyone wants to start New Year's Day?) but I refuse to be cranky about it. Instead I'm going to spend the day watching movies and continuing my obsession with Benedict Cumberbatch, as one does. (My play counts for this and this are both frighteningly high.)
