i am not going to talk about 250m/10yrs
Dec. 9th, 2011 08:04 amI woke up at four this morning for no reason whatsoever. Then it was so cold I couldn't feel my toes and I freaked out in the way that's only possible when you've had half a night's sleep and thus could not fall back asleep until I could feel my nail digging into my toes. By that point it was too late and sleep had run away and now I am going to be zombie girl for the rest of the day.
But! The National recently played two new songs; Omar Salgado's smile makes me go hngh; he's also really good at getting around defenders; Zarek Valentin still makes me squee; so does Amobi Okugo; I want this book entirely because the cover is so awesome; R.A. Dickey is probably not real; Tim Howard should not be messed with.

If I never hear Tinie Tempah's "Written in the Stars" again, it will be too soon. MLB postseason, it is bad enough that you play the same commercials over and over, do you also have to play the same song clip ad nauseum as well?
...
You should buy this cd because it is awesome.
...
Hope Solo is currently my favoritest person on the planet. And nobody in their right mind would say she's not sexy.
...
Happy birthday to Jesse Eisenberg, although I'm sure you'd hate even this much attention.
...
You should also buy this album. Excellent discussion on religion.

here are three things to listen to:
(one) brian fallon of the gaslight anthem/the horrible crowes covering katy perry's "teenage dream. this is for everyone who has ever wanted to hear brian singing about his skintight jeans, which i think i've wanted since forever, even if i didn't realize it until now.
(two) foster the people's tiny desk concert at npr. ♥ ♥ ♥
(three) vin scully calling the last inning of sandy koufax's perfect game. 46 years ago magic happened, and sometimes i think that if i could travel back in time i'd go to dodger stadium on september 9, 1965 to see it for myself.

is youtube being bratty for anyone else? don't they know that sometimes the 13,000 songs on my computer aren't enough and i need to watch crappy videos of brian fallon worshipping bruce springsteen? and that brek shea exists so i have to do things like watch him shove costa rican goalkeepers and make mls right backs look awful?
on the subject of soccer, i went to the us open on friday night but spent most of the time checking on the usmnt via twitter.
furthermore re. soccer: i love the valentin boys.
i saw an advance screening of warrior the other night and it was awesome. possibly my favorite movie of the year, but we'll see after the second viewing. everyone should see it.

the head and the heart's debut album is only $5 on amazon for the month of july. if you don't already have it, you no longer have an excuse.
sounds like hallelujah for the first time
Jun. 17th, 2011 09:36 pmthe head and the heart recorded a daytrotter session. this is the most important thing today, bar none.
mumford & sons covered the national's "england" (found here) and it's going to be my favorite thing for a while, at least until the national returns the favor and covers mumford & sons, because wouldn't matt berninger sound amazing doing "little lion man?"

even if you're not a baseball fan you should read ted berg's writeup about his brother and jose reyes because it is fantastic. it's so sweet and important.
It is only now, eight years later, that I realize Chris never saw Reyes play. Or David Wright, for that matter, but he would have hated Wright – that’s a different story. A whole generation of Mets players have come up and grown up before me without him there to share it. And now, maybe, they’re going away. It’s… well, it’s strange to think about.

i have been opening fics for x-men: first class in tabs and then not reading them at all so i'm not sure that i actually care about getting into the fandom.
some links:
+the person of interest intersection by primetime
fic for the middleman, wendy/lacey that is fantastic
+i would make a post about how awesome frank turner is but i think that the ruckus has covered it far better. but i really do recommend listening to glory hallelujah, which i will probably play at high volume for most of the five days i have my house to myself
+an adorable boy did the doctor's speech from the pandorica opens and it's, well, adorable
+pretend you're a baseball fan and read patrick flood's post about the pittsburgh pirates. it's done entirely pirate-speak. pirate-speak.
now i'm going to try to forget about the usmnt losing to panama (wtf?) and instead dwell on the fact that my blind pick for the stanley cup finals is one win away from being champions.
